Description

The Baron of Beef roast is a traditional and impressive cut of beef, often served at grand occasions for bigger gatherings, our 8kg joint serves over 32 people, meaning it has a price per serving of under £15 each.

It consists of two striploins fully boned and neatly tied by our master butchers, essentially forming a double sirloin roast. This cut also includes the fillet (tenderloin), making it a highly prized piece for roasting. The Baron of Beef is known for its rich flavour, tender texture, and striking presentation it offers when served whole. Roasting this cut preserves the natural juices and brings out the depth of flavour, making it a centrepiece for any celebratory meal, especially when roasted with our Bone Marrow & Garlic Butter from our Christmas Pantry.

It was a popular roast at royal feasts, especially at Christmas. One popular story about the origin of the name is that an English king, possibly Henry VIII, James I, or Charles II, knighted the cut as a reward for its exceptional quality. Another theory is that the term comes from King Henry VIII, who was a big fan of roast beef and would refer to a large double rack of roasted beef as "Sir loin, Baron of beef".

All of our Christmas range delivered between the 19th Dec to 23rd Dec is guaranteed to stay fresh until Boxing Day *except products containing pastry which are pre-frozen. 48 hour deliveries (Highlands & Islands) may have a shorter life depending on dispatch times.

How to cook The Baron of Beef Roast

This impressive joint is well suited to a slow roast allowing the fat to render offering full succulence, and proper buttery flavour. After roasting, let the meat rest for at least 30 minutes under a loose tent of foil. This allows the juices to be redistributed, ensuring a tender, flavorful roast. Make sure to follow our cooking instructions below from our in-house executive chef, Jeff Baker for the ultimate Christmas roast dinner.

Tasting notes:
Region:
Smallholding Farms In & Around Yorkshire

It's good to eat and enjoy heritage breed meat from British breeds, showing farmers that there is a market for their herds and flocks and encourage them to rear them. Without a demand for their meat, many breeds would die out altogether. When intensive farming reigned unchallenged in the second half of the last century, many of our traditional breeds all but disappeared because they don't take kindly to factory farming. We want to change this and help more people realise that we need to safeguard the natural biodiversity of our farm animals and to demand meat with intrinsic flavour that comes from higher welfare systems. All of our meat fits that bill perfectly.
